Abstract

964,866. Divisible cartons; packaging. ST. REGIS PAPER CO. March 25, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 11734/63. Headings B8C and B8P. A blank 10 for forming a carton which is manually severable into four smaller cartons comprises weakening lines 13, 14 and is transversely creased to provide rectangular panels 27- 34 and sealing flanges 35, 36 and longitudinally creased near its edge and cut to provide end sealing flaps 40-51, those 42, 43, 48, 49 at each end of panels 27, 31 being separated only by the line 14. The blank is assembled by folding along the transverse creases to form two tubes secured by the flanges 35, 36 to panels 27, 31 respectively. The cans to be packed are then inserted in the tubes and the end closures sealed, the tubes being thus joined over the ends by the flaps 42, 43, 48, 49. The resultant package is then severable into four pieces by tearing along the lines 13, 14. The blank is cut at 55, 56 to provide finger grips and at 61, 62 to provide locking tabs for the cans. These tabs are also creased at 64 and are pressed inwards by punches 73, 74. Upon release of the punches the tabs grip the can rims as shown in Fig. 8. The blank may be reinforced by transverse bands of sheet material 12, 12a-12d covering the creases and a substantial area of at least the top and bottom panels.
