Abstract

1394679 Two-part couplings RISTS WIRES & CABLES Ltd 14 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40878/71 Heading H2E In a two-part coupling the contacts of the plug part each comprise a double-ended pin portion 18 and a socket portion 16, the latter having one end adapted for connection to a lead 17 and the other end releasably retaining one end of the pin portion, the other end of the pin portion constituting the plug part contact adapted to mate with the other part of the coupling. The plug comprises a body 11 moulded around lugs 13 of a block 12 to form a recess 11a; pasages in the block each house a tubular socket portion 16. Studs 14 with threaded ends 14a are carried by the lugs and project into the block. A respective pin portion 18 with identical ends 19 and a larger diameter mid-region 21 engages each socket portion and the pins are retained by an apertured clamping plate 22 bearing against the mid-regions 21 and held in the recess by nuts 23. The plate has a lug 26 fitted into a recess 25 in the block to ensure correct orientation and a projection 27 which mates with a recess in the other coupling part to ensure correct polarization. The other coupling part may comprise an identical body 11, block 12 and socket portions 16 as contacts.
