Abstract

Ladders.-In a ladder of the kind having two sections adapted to form an extensible or self-supporting ladder, one section 5 slides within the sides 3 of the other, projections 8 engaging grooves 7. A rotatable shaft 12 with arms 13 is carried by supports 11 on the side members 3, the arms 13 being adapted to rest on the top rung 4 and to support a rung 6 when the ladders are extended. To make a self-supporting ladder, the section 5 is connected to the bar 12 by hinge slots 19 and a sliding locking-rod 21. The shaft 12 can be rotated by a sliding rod 14, a slot 17 in which engages an arm 18 extending from the shaft. The rod 14 is mounted on the side 3 by headed nails and slots 16.
