G. LE FLOHIC ADJUSTABLE LADDER PLATFORM Filed July 22 1921 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR CfZeFZohio amw WITNESS:
earse GEORGE LE ELOHIC, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUIMBIA.
ADJUSTABLE LADDER PLATFORM.
Application filed July 22, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, GEORGE Ln FLorrro, citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Ladder Platforms, of which the it'ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to platform for ladders, the general object of the invention being to provide a platform upon which a person may stand, when using the ladder, with means for supporting the platform from any desired rung of the ladder.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for slidably attaching the plat form to the side pieces of the ladder so that the platform can be adjusted on the ladder with means for causing the plat-form to en the desired rung to hold it in place.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the parts may be adjusted on the ladder without interference from the platform.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invent-ion in use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view through a ladder equipped with my invention.
Figure 3 is a view of one of the sliding brackets.
Figure 4 is a detail showing the means for connecting the two parts of the platform together.
Figure 5 is a view showing the position assumed by the two parts of the platform when the device is being adjusted.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the brackets.
In these views 1 indicates the ladder upon which the device is used. This device consists of a pair of brackets 2 which are formed to embrace the side pieces of the ladder so that they can slide thereon and each bracket has a slot 3 in its inner face for edges ar spaced apart Serial no. 486,754.
permitting the bracket to move past the rungs. Each bracket is provided witha pair of ears the sides thereof and each ear is provided with a hole 5 for receiving the pintles 6 formed on the ends of the platform 7. This platform is formed of two parts and each part is hingedly connected with the two brackets by means of the pintles engaging the perforated ears. The inner edge of each part of the platform is beveled, as at t which project outwardly from 8, so that these edges will overlap when the 1 platform is in operative position and the two parts of the platform are held together by means of a sliding bolt 9 which is slidably mounted in a plate 10 on one part of the platform and is adapted to engage a socket in a plate 11 on the other part of the platform. Plate 10 is provided with a U- shaped slot 12 for receiving a head 13 of a bolt for holding the bolt in either projected or retracted position. The outer corners of each part of the platform are extended, as at 14;, so that these parts will engage the edges of the side pieces of the ladder and thus limit the downward movement of the two parts and prevent the parts from striking the rungs when the device is being adjusted on the ladder. I prefer to form one ear slightly below the opposite ear so that the platform will be horizontal at the normal working slope of the ladder.
Each bracket 15 at the upper end of its outer side is adapted to receive a cable 16. These cables pass over pulleys 17 at the upper end of the ladder and may be secured in any desired manner to the ladder adjacent the lower end thereof. This will permit the platform to be raised and lowered from the ground.
It will thus be seen that when the bolt is retracted the two parts of the platform will fall apart with their corners 14 engaging the side pieces of the ladder so that their inner to permit them to pass the rungs while the brackets are being slid on the side pieces. When the brackets have reached a position adjacent the rung which is to be used the two parts of the platform are swung upwardly and the bolt pro jected to lock them together. The platform will then rest upon the rung and thus be held in a position to receive the feet of the user. This will afford a flat surface for the feet instead of the round rung engaging the instep.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. An attachment for ladders comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be slidably mounted on the le pieces of a ladder, a platform formed of two parts each part having ends pivoted to the bracket a distance from its inner edge so that when the two parts are moved out of alignment a space will be tor-med between them to permit the passage of a rung, the abutting edges of the two parts engaging a rungwhen said parts are in alignment.
2. An attachment for ladders comprising a pair of brackets for embracing the side pieces of a ladder and having slots in the inner faces for permittingthem to be moved past the rungs, perforated ears projecting outwardly from the sides of each bracket, aplattorm formed of twoparts, the ends of each part having; pintles thereon for engaging the perforations in the ears and means for locking the two parts of the platform together.
3. An attachment for ladders comprising a pair of brackets slidably mounted. on the side pieces of a ladder, ears on the brackets, a two-part platform having the ends of said parts pivotally connected with the ears,
a bolt for'connecting the two parts of the,
platform together and projections on the two parts for engaging the side pieces of the ladder for limiting the swinging movement of said parts.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGE LE FLOHIC.
