Rope grips.-A clamping-device for ropes, chains, &c., particularly applicable for the ropes of lifts and hoists, comprises a base-plate A, a sliding plate C mounted between walls a of the base-plate, and a pivoted plate D, between which and the sliding plate C the rope F is adapted to be gripped: The plate D is pivoted on a rod d which is carried by springs E, and has an adjustable screw d bearing against the plate C, by means of which the plate D is turned to grip the rope when the plate C is operated by a rotating camlever G. A spring E<2> is mounted between the plates A, C and another spring E<1> between the plates A, D. The cam lever G is mounted on a threaded bolt B to enable it to be adjusted. The device can be used in conjunction with a safety locking-device for the doors of the lift well, such as those described in Specifications 5922/11, [Class 78 (iii), Lifts &c.], 4982/14, and 137,611, [Class 78 (iii), Lifts &c.].
