[Class 44] [Also in Group XXX] In aground anchoring device for a cable, the cable is attached (e.g. by a shackle 20), to an arm 17 which is secured (e.g. by a pin 16) to a cam 15 resting on a plate 1. Through an aperture 3 in the plate pass gripping members 7, 8 which may have positioning rollers 11, 12, 13, 14, and which pivot about curved shoulders 4 so that the tension in the cable rotates the cam and forces the gripping jaws into engagement with a rail 21. The device is used for anchoring a gun mounted on a railway carriage.
