Abstract

675,733. Pipe couplings. SHELL REFINING & MARKETING CO., Ltd. Jan. 30, 1951, No. 2352/51. Class 99 (i). [Also in Group XXV] A lever 4 pivoted on one of two parts e.g., flanged pipes 1, 2, to be joined carries a clamping member, such as a rotatable roller 11 mounted on a pivoted arm 9, having a surface which, when the lever is actuated, cooperates with a surface 12 of a member 13 carried by the pipe 1 to clamp the flanges 7, 14 together, and a locking device such as a ratchet and pawl or a trigger 19 rotatable between forks 17 of the lever, which automatically comes into operation as the lever is moved to the clamping position, and holds the lever in position against the reaction between the parts. A spring 23 may maintain the trigger surface 20 in contact with a cam 22, and the lever may be turned in a clockwise direction by a spring 24 when the trigger is knocked in the same direction. Weights may be used in place of springs. A number of clamps may be spaced around the flanges.
