674,742. Mountings for binoculars. WOODHOUSE, C. H. L., and BAIRD, O. May 25, 1946 [March 14, 1945], No. 6444/45. Class 97 (i). [Also in Groups XXI, XXIII and XXV] A quick-clamping and quick-aligning device, particularly for the reception of binoculars 8 on the sight-bar 20 of a gun mounting, comprises a fixed jaw 1 and a jaw 2 movable about a pivot 3 into the clamping position by rotation of a threaded member 5 having a surface cam 7 bearing on an abutment of the jaw 2. The jaws may be held out of the line of sighting to provide open sights by engaging a spring-urged bolt in an upper hole 25 instead of the lower hole 25, as shown. In a modification, Fig. 3, the jaws are tiltable by rotation of a range drum driving an eccentric 30.
