650,556. Vehicle observation devices. PLUMMER, S. C. Jan. 23, 1948, No. 2170. [Class 103(ii)] '[Also in Group XIV] A device for fixing a mirror supporting arm 3 to the edge of a vehicle door 18 comprises an externally threaded bush 2 slidable on and rotatable about the arm, a clamping member 1 having a branch provided with a threaded aperture into which the bush 2 is screwed and an opposed branch adapted to engage behind one side surface of the door 18, whereby, when the bush is rotated in one direction, the arm is moved axially towards the opposite branch of the clamping member, and a casing 7 which encloses the clamping member 1 and is secured thereon by a nut 10. In an alternative construction, Fig. 4 (not shown), the device comprises a clamping member having a branch secured to the end of the arm, and an opposed branch adapted to engage behind one surface of a door, set screws screwed into threaded apertures in the first-mentioned branch between which and the opposed branch the door may be clamped, and a casing mounted on the arm to enclose the attachment fittings. A rubber or fibrous plate 12 is inserted between the door 18 and the end of the arm 3 or the screws referred to in the second embodiment.
