Abstract

588,784. Chain-tensioning device. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and PAGE, E. March 6, 1945, No. 5583. [Class 80 (i)] An automatic chain-tensioning device comprises a sprocket c mounted on an eccentric hub a adjustable on a spindle b and urged by a spring d to move the sprocket in a direction to take up any slack in the chain. The hub is prevented from moving in the opposite direction by a ratchet mechanism consisting of a ratchet or pawl plate e secured on the spindle and co-operating with a pawl or ratchet ring f anchored to the hub by a spring-pressed plunger g housed in a recess in the hub so that the hub can be freed from the ratchet control.
