1372743 Combined buffer and draw gear RINGFEDER GmbH 15 Dec 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 58298/71 -Heading B7T Buffer and draw gear, for use with an automatic central buffer coupling of a rail vehicle 16, comprises a spring device consisting of a housing formed of two parts 4a, 4b displaceable telescopically one within the other against the action of a spring, e.g. of the annular friction type, within the housing; a stirrup operatively connected to the spring device and consisting of two stirrup eyes 2, 3 joined to two spaced members 1 which have aligned apertures for receiving a coupling pin 9 to thereby connect a shaft 17 of the coupling with the spring device; a pressure plate 8 abutting one end of the spring device and slidable within the eyes 2, 3, the plate being adapted to engage on the undercarriage of the rail vehicle in use; slide members 11 fitted, e.g. removably, on the members 1 for co-operation with similar slide members on the rail vehicle; and a supplementary member 12 removably attached to the plate 8 and providing an abutment surface for the adjacent end of the coupling shaft 17. The detachable mounting of the supplementary member 12 on the plate 8 allows supplementary members with abutment surfaces of various forms (see also Figs. 5 and 6) to be interchangeably fitted in the gear to thereby adapt the gear for use with couplings having differently shaped coupling shaft ends. The supplementary member 12 may be fitted to the plate 8 by means of pins, or may alternatively have chamfered edges engaged between correspondingly shaped flanges on the plate 8 (see Fig. 8, not shown). Pressure members 14 may be interposed between the pin 9 and the spring device in use.
