465,020. Vehicle couplings; hinges; electric collectors. KNOBEL, F. Aug. 13,1936, No. 22336. [Class 103 (v)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVI] In a tractor-trailer coupling of the kind in which a ball 5 is engaged within a divided socket of which one part 6 is movable to form a locking-element, the part 6 is slidable within a guide casing 7 disposed at a sharp angle to the direction of pull and is actuated for uncoupling against the action of a spring 8 by means of a hand lever 9. As shown the hand lever is pivoted at one end 12 to the socket or housing and is provided intermediately with pins 11 which pass through elongated slots in the housing and engage the locking-member 5. In the coupled position the ball 5 makes contact with the socket at three spaced points only, two of these points 13, 14 being on the fixed part 3. Insulated contacts 19, Fig. 6, fitted on the ball 5 at opposite ends of a transverse bore 15 are adapted to co-operate with spring pins 23 carried by the socket 3 so that, when the coupling is effected, leads 20 for the " stop " and tail lamps of trailer are energized.
