Abstract

1,191,227. Model railway couplings. C. K. EDWARDS and L. D. EDWARDS. 25 Sept., 1968, [13 Nov., 1967], No. 45587/68. Heading A6S. [Also in Division B7] An automatic model railway coupling 18, comprises (a) a housing having sections 26 and 29 and an abutment post 40 spacing these sections through which a screw can be inserted thereby securing the coupling assembly; (b) a pair of shanks 50 and 54, whose slots 66 and 68 are enlarged at their outer ends to receive the post 40 freely, and allow the shanks to move longitudinally and laterally; (c) a "C- shaped" knuckle 60 attached to shank 54 adapted to' interlock with a similar knuckle of another coupling; (d) a lip 52 attached to shank 50 forming with the knuckle a mouth to receive the knuckle of another coupling; (e) a spring 70, maintained under compression in the shank slots thereby uging the shanks into alignment; (f) abutment means which may consist of two bosses 88 and 82 which enter slots 90 and 84 thereby urging the shanks into an aligned position and therefore maintaining the mouth of the coupling open. The coupling is provided with an uncoupling actuator 72 which is part of shank 54. The lip shank 50 is provided with slot 74 through which the actuator extends upwards to shank 54 and downwards towards the rails. In another embodiment of the invention a part of the housing is integral with the base of the railway vehicle (Figures 9 and 10, not shown)
