Abstract

An automatic coupling for model railway vehicles comprises a coupling member Fig 1b, terminating in a hook 1, a shackle, Fig 2b, pivotally journalled on said coupling member, and a draw hook 9, Fig 3 b, in the form of a bellcrank pivoted at its apex co-axially with said shackle. The couplings automatically latch together on impact, as shown in Fig 7b, and may be uncoupled by depressing together the depending ends 13, 13<SP>1</SP> of the bellcranks. The coupling is also designed to couple automatically with, and uncouple from, three known kinds of coupling. In one such coupling, a link 16, Fig 8a, is lifted upon impact with the hook 1, and subsequently drops over same, Fig 8a. Release is effected by upward pressure on the lower limb of link 16. In another such coupling, Fig. 9a, engagement and disengagement is effected exactly the same as with a pair of couplings of the present invention. In a third such coupling, Fig. 10a, the impact of the hook 9 with a bellcrank causes the hook to lift a wire link 24 over spikes 8 on the shackle of the present coupling, Fig. 10b. Disengagement is again effected by drawing the lower of limbs of the bellcranks together.
