Abstract

1371523 Feeding sheets J BOBST & FILS SA 8 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 47006/71 Heading B8R A sheet levelling device comprises fixed front support means for supporting the forward marginal portion of a sheet F, e.g. parallel rails 1, (2), Fig. 1 (not shown), vertically movable rear support means for supporting the rearward marginal portion, e.g. rollers 8 mounted on arms 5 on a rotatable shaft 6, a first sensor for detecting whether the forward marginal portion of the sheet, adjacent the front edge thereof is resting on said front support means, a second sensor for detecting whether a second portion of said forward marginal portion of the sheet, spaced rearwardly of said front edge, is resting on the front support means, and means responsive to said detection for vertically adjusting said rear support means. The sensors may comprise air nozzles 11, 12 issuing air jets which may be deflected down pipes 19, 20 to actuate a motor 25 via members 17, 18 when a sheet is resting on the appropriate part of the support. When the front part of a bowed sheet has been so levelled on the front support means, it is fed by a reciprocable suction feed table (3) to a machine via a gauge 4. The device may be used for levelling the bottom-most sheet of a stack placed on the support means.
