Abstract

Apparatus for separating flexible sheets such as labels from a stack 4 having the sheets standing on edge, comprises a suction head 11 rotatable about an axis which is displaceable parallel to itself, the head having a curved surface which rolls along the surface of the foremost sheet 5 to move the upper edge of that sheet by suction away from the stack, and a pivotallymounted blower and stack-supporting wedge 27 which is inserted between the upper edge of sheet 5 and the stack to cause complete detachment of the sheet 5 from the stack and from a retaining abutment 2a. The detached sheet is ejected by conveyer rollers 33, 34. From an initial position, Fig. 1, the axis of the suction head 11 first is moved from A to B, such movement causing, through toothed gearing, the head 11 to roll downwardly over the top part of the sheet 5 to move that part away from the pile. An arm 26 is now actuated to move the wedge member 27 into the gap thus formed, to support the stack. At the same time, a pressure plate 32a normally bearing against the front of the stack is moved away from the stack. An air blast of short duration is now caused to issue from the bore 28 of the member 27 to complete the release of the sheet 5 and to move its lower edge over the abutment 2a. Finally the head 11 is rotated about the axis B by the toothed gearing back to its initial rotary position, thus moving the sheet 5 downwardly into the bite of the rollers 33, 34. The parts are then returned to their initial position, Fig. 1. The stack 4 is supported in a feed channel 1, Fig. 3, having a base comprising a fixed part 2 and a reciprocating part 3.
