Abstract

1406346 Feeding sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 16 Oct 1973 [21 Nov 1972] 48104/73 Heading B8R A sheet registering device comprises upper rollers 11, 13, Figs. 1a and 2, co-operating with lower rollers 17, 19, the latter each being formed with a register stop defined by surfaces 25, 27, a circular perpheral surface 33 and a secured portion 35, the rollers being oscillated by a cam 45. In operation, a sheet is fed by rollers 81, 83 along a curved guide path until the leading edge engages the surfaces 25, whereafter the rollers 81, 83 slip on the sheet, and a side edge of the sheet being aligned by a side gauge associated with the roller 19. The rollers 11, 13, 17, 19 are then rotated so that the rollers 17, 19 rotate clockwise, while the rollers 81, 83 cause the sheet to follow the stops, until the surfaces 33 engage the rollers 11, 13, whereafter the sheet is driven by the rollers 11, 13, 17, 19 into the nip of rollers 67, 68 constantly rotating at the speed of a sheet-processing apparatus 85, the rollers 11, 13, 17, 19 being accelerated by the cam 45 until they reach the speed of the rollers 67, 68. The recessed portions 35 then come to be adjacent the rollers 11, 13 so as to release the sheet, which is fed to the processing- machine by the rollers 67, 68, and after the sheet has cleared the rollers 11, 13, 17, 19, they are moved, either in reverse as shown in Fig. 1a or in the same direction into their original positions ready to receive the next sheet. The stops and recessed portions could alternatively be formed on the upper rollers, or the stops on the lower rollers and the secured portions on the upper rollers.
