1317277 Feeding sheets A GRONLUNDNIELSEN 15 June 1970 [16 June 1969] 28976/70 Heading B8R A pile of sheets 2, Figs. 1 or 2, is carried on a table 1 which can be raised and lowered by an hydraulic cylinder 3, the pile being pressed upwards against a cross-bar 4. A slide 5, actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 6, has pivoted on a shaft 21, Fig. 3, an arm 20 formed with a surface 22 resting on the top sheet, a recess 28 behind it, and a pusher 25 adjustable by screws 26, 27, a spring 24 pressing the arm on to the pile. In operation, when the cylinder 6 is actuated, the pusher 25 engages an edge of the top sheet resiliently, but cannot overcome the friction between the sheet and the bar 4, the pressure against the bar is reduced by the cylinder 3, and the sheet is then pushed laterally against stops 15, with its opposite edge moving into a slit 9 between stops 7, 8, the stop 7 and the table 1 then being lowered until the edge of the sheet rests on a continuously rotating separator roller 10. When a sheet is to be fed to an associated machine, a control mechanism actuates an hydraulic cylinder 13 to lower an idler roller 11 to engage the sheet between rollers 10, 11, the sheet being fed in direction 14, either continuously or stepwise under control of the roller 11. The arm 20 is mounted on a universal joint to allow slight pivotal movement about a vertical axis. A stop 16 prevents double feed.
