Abstract

1362259 Combustion product engines C HUBERS 25 Oct 1971 [29 Oct 1970 49414/71 Heading F1S A combustion product engine has at least one cylinder 13 provided with at least one scavenging port 21 and with a piston 30 moving therein and separate apparatus 1 for feeding the engine with combustion products under pressure. The separate apparatus comprises a housing with a heat insulating liner. The housing being subdivided into a first chamber 4 and second chamber 3, by means of a partition 2, and at least one burner 6 mounted in the partition in such a way that the combustion takes place in the second chamber, the first chamber being connected by a conduit 19 to the cylinder of the engine for supplying air under pressure by the engine to the first chamber. A non-return valve is provided in the conduit which opens due to the compression of air during the return stroke of the piston. The first chamber acts as a source of supply of air under pressure for the burner. Means are provided for controlling a continuous supply of fuel and air to the burner in such amounts that a substantially complete combustion of the fuel in the second chamber is obtained. The second chamber is connected by a conduit 12 to the cylinder of the engine and a controlled valve is provided in the conduits for supplying combustion products to the cylinder of the engine. A blower 8 may deliver combustion air to the burner at a pressure which is somewhat higher than the pressure prevailing in the first chamber. If desired there may be provided a compressor 22 as shown in dotted lines, the compressor delivering the air to the chamber 4 or to an intermediate pressure vessel 23.
