Abstract

A regulating device for a free piston internalcombustion engine including means for reducing the feed of fuel to the engine when the free piston tends to move beyond a dead centre limit position comprises a rod 2 positively driven by the free piston and co-operating with a chamber 51 filled with a liquid and terminating in a cavity in axial alignment with the rod and of a diameter substantially equal to that of the rod. The cavity is so positioned that the rod enters it only when the free piston tends to move beyond a theoretically optimum dead centre position. Means 53 responsive to the overpressure produced in the cavity when the rod penetrates into the cavity operates a part 15 capable of reducing the amount of fuel fed to the internal-combustion engine on the next stroke of the free piston.
