Abstract
1341038 Inductors THORN AUTOMATION Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 May 1970] 22445/70 Heading HIT An inductor, having a core formed from laminµ of magnetic material which are electrically insulated from each other and having an air gap formed between two poles of the core, has the thickness of magnetic material reduced in the pole region in a direction transverse to the planes of the laminµ. This may be achieved by cutting successive outer laminae shorter (Fig. 5) or by cutting each alternate laminµ short (Fig. 8), such arrangements being said to reduce losses in the inductor generated by eddy currents produced near the air gap in the polepieces. The magnetic material may also be additionally reduced in thickness in the planes of the laminµ in the pole region to produce a curved profile (Fig. 7, not shown).
