Abstract

579,467. Transformers ; inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). April 17, 1944, No. 7040. [Class 38 (ii)] A magnetic core for induction apparatus such as transformers and reactors comprises layers of laminations formed lengthwise from strip material having the most favourable magnetic direction lengthwise of the strip adjacent portions of each layer having butt joints which are for most of their length parallel to but slightly displaced from the diagonal lines running from the inside corners to the outside corners of the finished core and adjacent joints of contiguous layers being on opposite sides of the adjacent diagonal. To produce the above displacement, the inside edges of each yoke portion such as 13 or 14 proceed slightly beyond the corners of the core " window " and in the contiguous layer the inside edges of each portion such as 31, 32 proceed slightly beyond the corners of the " window." All the portions of the lamination may be punched from one strip of material, Fig. 4 (not shown), only one die being required if this is reversed for alternate cuts.
