Abstract
1340777 Securing sails to stays S S SPARS Ltd 22 Nov 1972 [30 Nov 1971] 55586/71 Heading B7V A device for securing a sail 18 to a stay 21 comprises an elongated rigid strip having a longitudinal slotted passage 16 for the luff rope 17 and a second longitudinal passage 20 for the stay. A part 10 of the strip is removable to allow the device to be fastened to or detached from the stay. The passage 16 may have an anti-friction coating and may have a widened lower end to facilitate entry of the luff rope. A stop on the stay 21 limits downward movement of the device. The device is a loose fit on the stay so that it can turn with the sail and may be provided with gear which can rotate it to furl the sail. In a modification (not shown), the device is formed in two halves which lie on either side of a plane passing through the axes of the two passages and which are held together by screws.
