Abstract

An aluminium or plastic aerofoil shape gaff receives the forestay (11). It has a groove at the rear or lower end which can accommodate the headsail luff rope (12) - The luff rope engages in the groove via a guide at the lower end of the gaff. The luff rope may be attached to the sail by plastic clips or stitched in the usual way. Sail changing and bending is quicker than by the normal use of snap shackles. The set of the sail is improved for two reasons, a) The luff is straight b) The leading edge of the gaff rotates around the fore and provides a leading edge for the sail in whatever position it is set.
