Abstract

Rapid furling, or unfurling of the stay sail (B) is facilitated by the use of an additional alloy mast (5), attached to the main mast (A2), at its upper end (1), and to the bows at its lower end (13). An operating rope (29), is connected to the top of the sail, and passes over a pulley at the mast (5) top. It follows the mast down to a drum. This drum is operated by a cord (C). Slippers are attached to the leading edge of the sail, and locate into a slot in the trailing edge of the mast to give a rapid sliding action to the sail, when the operating cord is activated.
