Abstract

1409547 Securing sails to stays R E LAGERQUIST 12 Sept 1972 [20 Jan 1972] 42298/72 Heading B7V A jib sail 14 has an enlarged leading edge 8 so that the sail can be run up a slotted sleeve 26 which embraces the headstay 6. The sleeve can rotate freely about the stay so that there is no interference with sail movement. The sail is led into the sleeve by a passage in a boot 44 which is illustrated in detail in Fig. 3 (not shown) and which is secured to the sleeve by a tongue and groove connection. The boot comprises two halves secured together by screws to embrace a spherical retaining element (68) on the stay and thus to prevent movement of the sleeve along the stay. A line 84 is secured to tackle 74 and surrounds and slides over the sleeve to ensure the retention of the sail in the sleeve.
