Abstract

1340326 Winch drum drives HAWK INDUSTRIES (DERBY) Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 5718/70 Heading B8B A winch drum 5 is provided with a peripheral guard comprising a fixed part 10 and a part 9 hinged thereto for movement radially away from the drum to cause the winch drive to be stopped, the said movement occurring when the winch rope 7 develops slack and tends to uncoil from a helical groove 6 in the drum. Slack, expanding coils of the rope 7 lift the guard part 9 causing an arm 13 to pivot about an axis x whereupon a further arm 15 pivots about an axis y and operates a micro-switch 16 to deenergize the winch motor. The arm 5 is also shaped such that it is contacted by the unwinding rope 7 when complete unwinding of the rope from the drum is approached, and the drum is therefore stopped.
