Abstract

1333226 Extruding A E RUNEVALL and B HANSSON 13 Nov 1970 [17 Nov 1969] 54141/70 Heading B3P In a metal extrusion process using a screw press to which the metal is introduced in a molten state, the thread of the screw propels the metal after it has solidified through a zone where the metal is heated by internal friction due to the metal being kneaded. The solidification is caused by a coolant flowing inside the screw, and the kneading is caused by depressions or projections on the thread or core of the screw, Fig. 6. The chamber 4 around the screw also has cooling ducts 10. The metal may be cooled just prior to the die 6, Fig. 1, so that the die effects cold working. The metal may be lead, lead alloy or aluminium.
