Abstract

1321786 Blasting cartridges CANADIAN INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Feb 1972 [24 March 1971] 9247/72 Heading F3A A blasting cartridge for placing end to end with similar cartridges comprises a rigid tubular paper shell 1 open at both ends, a thin-walled water-impervious, thermoplastic bag 4 disposed in tight, non-slipping relationship within the shell and a blasting explosive composition contained within the bag, the bag being sealed at both ends and having an unfilled portion 7 projecting beyond the end of the shell, with a thermoplastic cap 9 closely adhering to the other end of the shell. The bag 4 may be one- or twoply and one or both plies are heat sealed at each end. The cap 9 is heat shrunk on to a tapered end of the shell. A wire tie 6 bunches the end 7 of the bag to provide a carrying means and a loop for a lowering line hook. Alternatively, a handle may be taped to the upper end of shell 1. The cap 9 and bag 4 are formed of polythene. The shell 1 is waxed. The explosive charge comprises ammonium nitrate and a fuel.
