Abstract

1326753 Sealing the ends of collapsible metal tubes LECTRATUBE Ltd 21 Jan 1972 [22 Oct 1970] 50265/70 Heading B8C A method of sealing collapsible metal tubes, which comprise for example a shoulder and nozzle at one end and which have been filled with contents through the other open end, comprises applying a coating of heat-responsive adhesive material to at least a portion of the inside surface of the open end, collapsing the walls of the latter end and heat-sealing them together by high-frequency induction. The coating of adhesive is applied, before, and after, the introduction of the filling material, in a band which preferably extends from between 0À25 and 0À75 inches from the open end of the tube, suitable adhesive coating materials being epoxies and those which are acrylic based. Preferably, after the walls of the open end of the tube have been brought together, they are crimped and folded over before being inductionheat sealed. In a modification the heatresponsive material is applied to the outer, instead of the inner, surface of the open end of the tube in those cases where the walls of said end are to be brought together and turned over.
