Abstract

1319957 Reversible plough C V R DOWDESWELL 12 Aug 1970 [15 Aug 1969] 40816/69 Heading A1B A multi-furrow reversible plough for attachment to a tractor three-point hitch comprises a rigid frame of members 9, 11 to which is attached a plough beam 1 which rotates at 12, 13 about the longitudinal axis 5. An arm 15 is provided which is connected at its forward end to the frame 9, 11 by a universal joint 14 and near its rear end to the beam 1 via a link 20. The rear wheel 17 is journalled in a support which has a castor action and its height is adjustable by the screw 18 operating in an extension 15a of arm 15. To reverse the plough, the frame 9, 11 is raised on the tractor links and a hydraulic ram (25), Fig. 3 (not shown) acts on the lug 26 with an over-centre action so that the second half of the reversal occurs by gravity, the ram (25) serving as a damper. As the beam 1 rotates, the arm 15 will be caused to rotate also due to the link 20. For travel at headlands or on the road, when using five ploughshares 4 on beam 1 or other heavy polugh assemblies, the reversal can be arrested at the halfway stage with the beam 1 and the arm 15 in the same vertical plane so that the plough is semi-mounted on the wheel 17.
