Abstract

645,301. Reversible ploughs. WHATLEY, A. April 14, 1948, Nos. 10410 and 14538. [Class 6(i)] A reversible plough, either of disc or double - sided share type, comprises a sector - shaped draw - frame 4, 5, attachable to a tractor at its front end and carrying, at its rear, a vertical pivot 3 for a horizontal beam 2 on which are swivelly mounted cranked axles 16 carrying the discs or shares 15; relative movement between the beam and frame rotates the axles and causes reversal of the operative edges of the shares or discs. The frame 4 is provided with an arcuate rack 21 meshing with a pinion 20<SP>1</SP> on the central axle 16, the pinion being connected to discs 20 on the other axles by rods 23. The beam 2 rests rearwardly on a castor wheel 9. At the end of a furrow, a catch 25, locking the beam to the draw-frame, is released, and the relative angular movement of the beam and frame in turning reverses the operative edges of the tools, the beam being then locked in its new position. Scrapers 15<SP>1</SP> may be provided for the discs.
