Abstract
645,213. Agricultural ploughs. BOMFORD, D. R., and HOSIER, A. J. Feb. 24, 1948, Nos. 5500 and 11281. [Class 6(i)] A reversible plough, comprising a longitudinally-extending, cranked plough-beam 1, supported by a rear carriage 11 and by either a front carriage, or a front support 6 mounted on a tractor, and having two sets of plough bodies 2, is characterized in that the reversal of the bodies is initiated by the raising of the beam to free the bodies from the ground, under the action of a power-lift, and the reversal is completed by the reaction of the rear carriage in turning at the end of a furrow. As shown, the support 6 comprises a drawplate hinged at 40 and carrying a pair of front pivots 5 and 14 for the beam. An arm 45, projecting from the beam, is yoked to a transverse beam 50 carried by pivoted arms 49 suspended from the power-lift arms 49<SP>1</SP>. Chains 35, 35<SP>1</SP> connect points on the rear carriage 11 with points on the beam spaced from the pivotal axis. In use, the power-lift is utilized to raise the plough beam to a point just short of the dead-centre position at the end of a furrow and the movement of the rear carriage in turning tips the beam over to the opposite side of the dead-centre, so that, on lowering the beam, the opposite set of tools are engaged. In a modification; the plough is provided with its own front wheels arid a separate power-lift comprising a pivoted ram fed with fluid from a pump on the tractor. Depth of ploughing is adjusted by screws on the fore and rear carriage. Means are provided (Figs. 11 and 12, not shown) so that the tractor and plough may be relatively laterally-offset in action while, at the same time, the movement between them is restricted: Specifications 535,635 and 608,642 are referred to:
