Abstract
1309933 Offshore structures SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 29 June 1970 31390/70 Heading E1H The hull 1 of a floating structure furnished with a drilling derrick 4 is kept on station above a well 11 by a Voith-Schneider propeller 13, which is controlled by a device 17 in response to signals from a compass 18 and microphones 16 receiving acoustic signals from transmitters 14. Lines 20 to guide a wellhead 23 when it is lowered from the hull are attached to tensioning winches 21 on a rotatable ring 9, which allows the hull to turn horizontally. A bearing 29 engaging with a conduit 25 is supported by cables 30 secured to pneumatic tensioning devices 30. The ring 9 may be turned by electric or hydraulic means so as to keep the lines 20 parallel. Bow and/or stern propellers may be provided instead of the propeller 13.
