Abstract
1290896 Laying pipe lines; buoyant pipes SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 18 Dec 1969 [20 Dec 1968] 61723/69 Heading F2P A pair of hoses 103 for conducting a fluid between a ship and pipelines 101 in or upon subaqueous ground 102 are supported at the upper ends by a mooring buoy 1 for the ship and are furnished with floats 104 so that they assume in a vertical plane a shape similar to a letter. S, thus giving the buoy sufficient freedom to move in response to wind and wave action. Each of the hoses has flexible sections 105 coupled by flanges 106. In each of the floats pipes 107 to interconnect adjacent sections 105 are coaxial with buoyancy chambers 113, 114. The chambers 114 are flooded and then partially blown through pipelines 115 to obtain the required buoyancy, plugs 118 being provided to facilitate flooding. The chambers 113 have vents 119.
