Slip gear, that is, apparatus employed to support a water-borne ship out of water including both apparatus involved to haul a ship up an inclined slipway which extends beneath a floating ship and apparatus used in a dry-dock installation where the water is pumped out an enclosure into which the ship has been placed, includes a plurality of hydraulic slip trucks each provided with an hydraulic cylinder, the cylinders of the plurality of trucks being interconnected in at least two mutually independent groups and indicating means connected via cable and/or hose connections to the independent groups of slip trucks to indicate the portion of the weight of the ship supported by the groups of slip trucks.
