Abstract

1301155 Fluidic elements BORG-WARNER CORP 10 June 1970 [25 June 1969] 28236/70 Heading G4P [Also in Division F1] A monostable fluidic switch has a control nozzle 132 and one or more additional nozzles 138 opening in to interaction chamber 114. Bias air pressure, e.g. atmospheric, is applied at nozzle 137. A liquid jet formed by nozzle 134 normally attaches to one sidewall of exit duet 121. One or more of the nozzles 138 are connected to the control air pressure inlet 131 and to the downstream part of exit duct 121 by a channel 139, shown partly in broken line, which formed in the plate forming the lower wall of duct 121. The presence of this channel aids attachment and reattachment of the jet to the side-wall. For the duration of a pulse of air at inlet 131 the jet switches to exit duct 124. As applied to the control of the flow of fuel to an I.C. engine, fuel from sump 149 is supplied to nozzle 134 by pump 147. In the absence of a control pulse from unit 143 the fuel returns to the sump via exit duct 121. Unit 143 emits pulses of frequency related to the engine speed and of duration related to the load. During a pulse the fuel flows through exit duct 124 and via restrictor 127, the resulting jet passing through chamber 164 and restrictor 163 to port 129 in the engine's air intake system. Chamber 164 has vents 158, 159 and, together with restrictor 127, serves to isolate the interaction chamber 114 from the varying vacuum at port 129.
