Abstract
1,266,799. Liquid whistle emulsifiers; mixing in tortuous passages. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE. 31 Dec., 1969 [31 Dec., 1968], No 63524/69. Heading B1C. [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] A feed unit for a liquid hydrocarbon fuel burner for the supply of an emulsion of an emulsifying liquid in the liquid hydrocarbon, comprises conduits 1 and 2 or a common conduit for the supply of fuel and, e.g. water, to a first mixing chamber 4, a plate 5 having having passages 6 therethrough for supplying the mixture to a second mixing chamber 7, whence the mixture impinges on the edge of a vibrating blade 9 to give mechanical vibrations in the fluid mass. The entire emulfied mixture is thereafter directed towards a burner (not shown) via conduit 14. As shown, the distance between the blade 9 and the injection opening 8a may be adjusted by means of a screw 12. The longitudinal median planes of the blade 9 and injection nozzle 8 are substantially parallel and are laterally offset so that the jet issuing from the opening 8a provides on initial impulse to set the blade 9 vibrating. In the embodiment of Figures 3-4 (not shown) the first and second conduit means are in the form of a common conduit (120). In the embodiment of Figs. 8, 10 conduits 122, 121 for emulsifying liquid and liquid fuel respectively merge into a common conduit means 123, a conduit (not shown, 120a) upstream of the first mixing chamber and the conduit 122 for emulsifying liquid contains a flow control valve 17. Filters 130, 131, 132 of fritted bronze are shown interposed in mixing, fuel and emulsifying liquid conduit means 33, 31, 32 respectively.
