1293360 Burners DUMAG OHG DR TECHN LUDWIG KALUZA & CO 19 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968 9 Jan 1969 8 April 1969] 62038/69 Heading F4T [Also in Division B1] An atomized liquid and a gas are mixed by directing them to a mixing zone and imparting sonic or ultrasonic vibrations to the gas, or directing the gas to the zone at supersonic speed. The fluids preferably issue through concentric nozzles in a nozzle assembly, for example for a fuel burner. The central nozzle, for atomized liquid, may be a central opening 7 or 68 (as shown), to which liquid is directed through passages 4 (Fig. 1) in an atomizer body 5. The passages are preferably set obliquely to create swirl in the liquid. Gas is discharged through an annular supersonic nozzle 74 (Fig. 4) or an annular nozzle 84 with an annular resonance cavity 85, or, as shown, through both nozzles 74, 84. An alternative arrangement of resonance cavity is shown in Fig. 1, the gas flows through a convergent nozzle 11 to impart in an annular recess 12, sonic or ultrasonic vibrations thus being generated in the zone 15. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the gas is deflected by a deflecting groove (13) into an outwardly facing annular groove (17).
