Abstract

1378190 Fuel atomizer nozzles HITACHI Ltd 18 Feb 1972 [3 March 1971] 7664/72 Heading F4T A fuel atomizer nozzle comprises a liquid fuel passage 15 provided with means for whirling the fuel to produce a vortex which is jetted through jet 4 as a conically-flared vortex stream, and a gas passage 14 having a plurality of means 5, outlets of which are disposed at the border of the vortex stream, for injecting gas into the fuel vortex stream so as to whirl the gas in a direction opposite to that of the liquid fuel so that the velocity vectors of the liquid fuel stream and the gas stream at the position where the injected gas meets the liquid fuel stream meet at an angle of more than 90 degrees. The means 5 are provided by helical grooves on a nozzle body portion 2. The liquid fuel passes through a swirling means 8 and enters a vortex chamber 3 through tangential grooves 11. The outlets of the grooves 5 may be at right angles to the axis of jet 4 or directed rearwardly towards jet 4. The part 6 of the nozzle body may be cylindrical.
