Abstract

1480011 Carburetter idle systems FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 19 June 1975 26218/75 Heading F1H In a variable Venturi carburetter, fuel is supplied to the throttle valve by-pass channel 50 via passage 54 from between main jet 60 and auxiliary jet 62 controlled by a needle 16 carried by the movable Venturi wall. At idle, air, drawn from the Venturi area through jet 62, is premixed with the fuel. Venturi pressure changes due to throttle valve 25 being opened, cause the needle 16 to be withdrawn allowing more fuel to flow from jet 60, fuel passing out into the venturi through jet 62 when a sufficiently low Venturi pressure is achieved. Air bleed 64 ensures that neat fuel does not reach by-pass channel 50. Jets 60, 62 may be cast or threaded into the carburetter and a restricted orifice nozzle 56 may be used to provide sonic idle flow conditions, shock waves being propagated back from the nozzle end towards the orifice.
