1300913 Two-part couplings BUNKERRAMO CORP 13 Jan 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 1534/70 Heading H2E A two-part electrical connector 10 comprises a pair of hollow shells 19, 20 supporting a pair of dielectric members 17,18 containing contacts 11, 12 in passages 15, 16. When the shells are secured together by means of a ring 21 and wave spring 56 the faces 49, 50 of the dielectric members are forced into a fluid-tight seal. The seal around the contact passages 15 16 is made by appropriate shaping of the ends of the passages, Fig. 4, the riser 53 at the end of passage 16 being frusto-conical and the end 54 of the passage 15 being cylindrical. The material of the dielectric members 17, 18 is slightly deformable, thus ensuring a fluidtight seal, a suitable material being described in the Specification. The contacts 11, 12 are held in the passages 15, 16 by retention members 70, 81 having spring fingers 74 which bear against shoulders 76 formed on the contacts. If a contact-removing tool is not available a contact may be removed by application of a sharp blow to the end of the contact, the hard spring fingers 74 cutting a portion of the shoulder 76 of the relatively soft metal contact, allowing the contact to be withdrawn. A collar 73 on the contact abuts the other end of the retention member. A master key 29 on the shell 19 fits in a keyway 30 in the shell 20 to polarize the two parts of the connector and other keys and keyways may also be provided (Fig. 2, not shown). An additional seal 44 is provided between the shells 19, 20, being formed by a metal tube 47 within a P.T.F.E. U-cross-section sheath. Seals 83, 84 are provided around the conductors 13, 14 attached to the contacts 11, 12.
