Abstract

1307504 Two-part couplings VIBRO-METER AG 27 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 44859/71 Heading H2E A connector for interconnecting two cables or as shown for connecting cable 14 to equipment such as a piezoelectric signal generator comprises a casing 1, an insulating insert 4 within the casing and having passages 5, 6, one for each conductor of the cable, a contact element 7 being secured in each passage and comprising a prestressed radially resilient sleeve providing two contact portions, one for a contact pin on cable conductor 12, the other for a contact on another cable conductor or equipment. Contact 7 comprises three cylindrical portions separated by spring st@ portions (Fig. 3, not shown) and preferably has a slot running longitudinally (Fig. 4, not shown). Resilient sleeve 11, which may be similarly constructed, supports the insulating sleeve 4, which may be ceramic. Cable conductors 13 may be welded and crimped to contact pins 12. The cable is secured to the connector by screwing on a union nut to compress pressure ring 16 against elastomeric sealing ring 17. At the same time earth ring 18 presses cable braid 19 against casing 1. Sealing ring 3 is pressed against a collar of the casing when the connector is secured to equipment by union nut 2. A spring extending around casing 1 engages in milled recesses 20, 21 in union nuts 2, 15. A modification for use with a mineral insulated cable is described (Fig. 2, not shown).
