Abstract
1289117 Electro-depositing chromium PERMALITE CHEMICALS Ltd 2 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49802/69 Heading C7B An aqueous acidic solution, for electrodepositing bright microcracked or decorative Cr plate, preferably with good covering and throwing power, on Ni, Co or Ni-Co coated metal articles e.g. of steel or Cu coated Zn base alloy, comprises CrO 3 e.g. 175-450 g/l, SO 4 ions e.g. 0À7-4À5 g/l H 2 SO 4 , at least 2 preferably 10-30 g/l boric acid or borate e.g. Na or K perborate or borax, a F-containing compound, e.g. a fluorinated hydrocarbon, HF and/or its salts, HBF 4 and/or its salts, fluozirconate, fluoaluminate, fluotitanate, silicofluoride (of Na and/or K), preferably 1À5-3 g/l K 2 SiF 6 , and a Se compound, e.g. selenic acid or alkali metal salt thereof, preferably 0À003-0À012 g/l SeO 2 . Surface active agent and foam suppressant may also be added. Preferred ratios of CrO 3 : F, SO 4 : F and CrO 3 : SO 4 are 110-320, 0À69-2À56 and 80-250 respectively.
