Abstract

1283201 Boriding metals ELEKTROSCHMELZWERK KEMPTEN GmbH 22 Sept 1969 [21 Sept 1968] 46558/69 Headings C7F and C7U A process for boriding metals uses a boriding agent in powder form, and, as activator, a fluoborate. The composition used comprises a boriding agent and 1 to 10 wt. per cent of fluoborate, and may also contain Al 2 O 3 . Boriding agents disclosed are ferroboron, amorphous boron, B 4 C, Na 2 B 4 O 7 , or mixtures thereof; preferred activators are Na, K, and NH 4 fluoborates, and a preferred composition contains B 4 C, 75-85%; Na 2 B 4 O 7 , 10-20%, and fluoborate, 1-10% by weight, and may be used for boriding steel.
