Abstract

1436945 Bonding compositions BORAX CONSOLIDATED Ltd 8 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 949/73 Headings C7F and C7U A metal substrate is bonded by contacting it with a solid pulverulent composition comprising a bonding agent, an activator and 50-90 wt. per cent of carbon or graphite, the reaction taking place at 700-1100‹C. The agent may be calcium hexaboride, boron carbide, amorphous boron, ferroboron or mixtures thereof, and the activator is selected from alkali or alkaline earth metal fluorides chlorides or fluoroborates, NH 4 Cl, NH 4 F, and alkali metal acid fluorides. The substrate may be of steel, Ni-Co, WC or metals of groups IVA, VA, VIA or alloys thereof. Examples of compositions are given.
