Abstract

Wear-resistant moulded articles consist of, or have surfaces consisting of, a mixt, of B carbide and >=1 other refractory metal boride or carbide, pref. WC, TiB2 and/or ZrB2. The moulded articles are pref. jets for granulated material and cutting tools. Mixtures have improved working life and workability. B carbide and additives act synergetically. Jets can be prepd. by hot-pressing mixts. contg. 80 wt. % additive, pref. 50:50 TiB2/B carbide. Cutting materials pref. contain 40-60 % B carbide and 60-40 % additive. Hot or cold-pressing processes can be used. Hot-pressed materials pref. contain a binder, esp. Mo Cold-pressed materials may contain up to 10 wt. % standard additive esp. Co or Ni.
