Abstract
1,265,601. Fe-Si - Mg master alloy. COMPAGNIE PECHINEY. April 1. 1970. No.15343/70. Headings C7A and C7D. A master alloy consists by weight of between 5 and 20% Mg between 40 and 75% Si between 0À3 and 1À2% B from 4 to 12% Ba the remainder apart from impurities being iron, with the proviso that Mg : B is from 15 to 25 and Mg : Ba is from 1 to 3. Nitrogen up to twice the boron content may also be present. Specified impurities are Ca and Al up to 2À5% in total. The alloy may be used to refine spheroidal graphite cast iron. If nitrogen is absent it may be added in the following forms: - a nitrate (e.g. NaNO 3 , KNO 3 ) + reducing agent (e.g. Al, Si) - organic nitrogen derivatives to give nitrogen e.g. Ca(CN) 2 - metal compounds containing -CN groups (such as ferrocyanide, ferricyanide).
