Abstract

1289627 S G iron SULZER BROS Ltd 10 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 58690/70 Headings C7A and C7D Co and Mg in metallic form are together added to molten iron to produce residual amounts of 0À01-0À08% Mg and 0À1-1À5% Co; the Mg may be partially replaced by Ca, Y, rare earth metals, Sr, Ba, Th or Sc, while up to 3% Al may also be added simultaneously. The desired composition may be obtained by the addition of 1 to 2% by weight of a composition containing, as proportions by weight of the additive Mg 5 - 35% Ca 0 - 5 R.E 0 - 5 Sr 0 - 5 Ba 0 - 5 Y 0 - 2 Th 0 - 2 Sc 0 - 2 Co balance so that the product contains at least 0À01% Mg. The additive may be in the form of a pressed or sintered body free of silicon. Exemplified products contained: - 1 2 C 3À84 3À84 P 0À01 0À01 S 0À007 0À007 Si 2À25 2À25 Mn 0À15 0À15 Mg 0À027 0À032 Co 0À5 0À4 Al - 0À12 Fe bal. bal.
