Abstract

1278339 Spray burners H F WALLNOFER 15 Dec 1969 [20 Dec 19681 60963/69 Heading F4T A liquid fuel burner for e.g. ceramic kilns in which the fuel is atomized by an air stream in a coaxial pipe 1 surrounding the fuel supply pipe 5, Fig. 2, comprises an atomizer body 90 in the form of a solid of rotation having a narrowed upstream portion 91 threaded into the end of the fuel pipe 5 so that the fuel runs over the surface of the atomizer body 90, the tapered downstream end 96 of which has an axial recess 97 surrounded by a rim 99. The end 91 of the body 9 has a number of tapered axial grooves 92 to assist fuel flow, and the recess 97 may be threaded to take one or more extension pieces 100, 101, 102. An air duct 3 coaxial with the fuel pipe 5 is provided to prevent any pressure drop in the region of the portion 93 of the body 90, and the downstream end of the air pipe 1 is tapered to maintain a substantially constant airflow cross-section. In a modification, Fig. 3, the atomizer body 900 has a shoulder 902 at its upper end having therein a number of convergent air ducts 31 which merge into an axial duct 32, the fuel entering the body through an axial bore 51 which leads to a number of divergent bores 52 which emerge on to the surface of the body 900. Means are provided to adjust the fuel pipe 5 and atomizer body 90 or 900 axially with respect to the air duct 1.
